Congratulations, you're engaged! Now comes the fun part - planning!
Once you have picked out your dream venue and your wedding date, it's time to start thinking about your Save The Dates. It is best to give your guests as much time as possible to plan their travel for your special day. Typical practice is to mail your Save The Dates about 6-8 months prior to your wedding. If you are having a destination wedding, or inviting several out of town guests, the earlier you send them the better.
Now that your guests have your date marked on their calendars, begin thinking about your wedding invitations. Remember, your stationery is your guests' first impression of your wedding! Here are some things to keep in mind:
- Your invitations should reflect your wedding theme/style, and formality.
- Let your personalities shine through!
- Be thinking about the necessary stationery pieces you will need in your invitation suite. For example, do you have a wedding website where guests can find most of your day-of information, or will you need an Extra Insert Card with that information?
- Know your budget. Invitations can be made in all shapes and sizes, and using a variety of papers and printing techniques. Make sure to request a quote from your stationer, and discuss different options to work within your budget.
Now that you know what you want, it's best to order your invitations about 10-12 weeks prior to your wedding. Custom invitations can typically take 3-5 weeks for design time, printing, and mailing. You should plan to mail your invitations 6-8 weeks before your wedding. Most reply cards should have a deadline of 2-3 weeks for final guest count.
